There can be few better settings for football on a late summer morning than Brocagh’s spectacular Lough shore venue and so it proved for Kildress earlier today as they played strong and hard to get this 2-15 to 0-7 win over Derrytresk. It was a win that owed as much to good defending as sharp attacking with the Tones full back line of Aaron and Marty Loughran and Callum Holland in tip-top form and half-back Conor Quinn delivering a totally dynamic man-of-the-match display, from one end of the pitch to the other and totting up 1-3 from play in the process. Enda McAleer in his first match of the season was also very strong for Kildress around the middle as was Caolan McNamee at centre-forward.

Kildress had built up a 0-8 to 0-1 lead heading towards half-time but a late Derrytresk surge saw the break reached at a 0-9 to 0-4 score-line. The Fir an Cnoic got the gap down to four points early in the second half but then Kildress went on a match-clinching roll, scoring 2-6 without reply, Conor Quinn and Matty McGuigan’s quick fire goals putting the outcome way beyond any doubt.

This was an entertaining, free-flowing game, expertly refereed by Martin Sludden and maintains Kildress 100% League record.

Kildress: | Gerard Grimes | Aaron Loughran, Callum Holland, Marty Loughran | Eoin Brannigan, Stephen McGurk, Conor Quinn (1-3) | Enda McAleer (0-1), Philip Lennon (0-2) | Stephen Loughran (0-1), Caolan McNamee, Des Treacy (0-1) | Marty Grimes (0-2), Frank McGurk (0-1), Matty McGuigan (1-3) |, Jonny Connolly (0-1), Shea Murphy, Adam Connolly, Pauric Lagan

Kildress Seniors’ scoring may have been good but their Reserves topped it by rattling home 9-17 to Derrytresk’s 1-7 in the follow-up match. From Corey Holland’s early goal Kildress dominated this one and with hat-tricks from both Damian Kelly and Gavan Corey, and further goals from Marty McGurk and Niall Quinn, also maintained their undefeated position at the top of their League table.
