This Friday, 6 January is Nollaig na mBan (‘Woman’s Christmas’).
On that day (the day the Three Wise Men visited the crib, and still the big, important Christmas date in the Eastern Orthodox Church), it was the tradition in old Tyrone for the women to get together and enjoy their own Christmas, while the men stayed at home and handled all the chores. It was also common for children to help their mothers and grandmothers with household work and maybe provide a bit of extra help (or spoiling!).
So, on Friday night, in Gortacladdy, we’re regenerating the Nollaig na mBan tradition, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
We’ll serve some light, healthy food, deliver a bit of chat-and-mingle, and present the unique Tara Grimes, one of Ireland’s most inspirational people in that vital area of women’s wellbeing, and of course, also one of our/Tyrone’s own, from Donaghmore.
A small celebration in the day that’s in it, with and for the women of Kildress.
Everybody is welcome: just turn up from 7.30pm.
BUT, if you’re male, we’ll be expecting you to help with the work!
(It’s all free-of-charge, compliments of the CDHN ‘Elevate’ programme)
