Brilliantly well done to our wonderful Under 14s on their thrilling victory over Cookstown in the Under 14 League Final at the Rock last night. It’s a great achievement and was the result of hard, hard work by those players and their managers and coaches over many years.
Kildress’ first Under 14 title was won all of 29 years ago when on 21 August 1988 Sean Treacy captained our team to a 2-10 to 1-7 victory over Greencastle at Pomeroy. Our team that day was Paddy Lagan, Barry Donaghy, Paddy McGurk, Trevor Gallagher, Anthony Murphy, Martin O’Driscoll (0-1), Shane O’Driscoll, Sean Treacy (1-5), Colman Mulgrew (0-2), Jason Mulgrew, Darren Callan (0-1), Raymould Heagney (1-0), Phelim Mulgrew (0-1), Nigel McKernan, Justin McGurk, John McGurk. Out of that team we had men who went on win the Junior Championship for Kildress, secure Kildress as a Senior Club and play for Tyrone at all levels. Not bad role models for their successors last night!
