The ‘Battle of Tyrone’s Wolfe Tones’ turned out to be a one-sided affair as Kildress cruised to this 2-17 to 2-4 win on Drumquin’s wonderful playing surface. Kildress may remain badly-affected by injuries but they showed no ill effects today as a young team never looked in danger and notched up their third win in a row – something that we haven’t experienced in a while. By half-time Kildress led by 1-9 to 0-2 and but for dropping several efforts short in a difficult wind might have been even further ahead. Enda McAleer’s fine early second-half goal killed the game off as Philip Lennon (1-5) and Matty McGuigan (0-6) picked off the scores though Gerard Grimes bailed his team out twice with outstanding saves. After his 2-7 last week, Drumquin’s Sean McDonagh banged home a spectacular 2-2 in injury time but Kildress had the game long sewn up. For the visiting Tones Dean McNally, Marty Loughran and Tiernan McNamee were very strong in an impressive new-looking defence, Pauric Lagan and Enda McAleer were largely in control at midfield whilst up front Stephen Loughran, Philip Lennon, Matty McGuigan and Des Treacy impressed. This was always going to be a year where Kildress would have work to do but there are now definite signs that the work being put in and the commitment being shown are paying off.
The Reserves again had no game and so hold on to their 100% record and retain their top-of-the-table slot.
