Kildress grabbed their first point of the season with a rip-roaring 1-9 to 1-9 draw today at Strabane. Played in ideal if breezy conditions, The Tones’ Philip Lennon was on fire in the first half, ratcheting up 1-5 and driving his team to a 1-7 to 0-6 half-time lead. Both sides missed chances in that first half and the pattern continued in the third quarter with both finding it easier to miss than to score.
Strabane, expertly-led by Walter Mullan, had the better of the second half but tenacious Kildress defending, where Dean McNally in particular withstood everything that was thrown at him, meant the Sigersons never actually hit the lead. Kildress could only manage two second-half points, both from Matthew Heagney and in the end were pleased to hang in for the draw. The Tones had other good displays from Johnny Connolly, Stephen McGurk, Aidan Donaghy, Conor McAleer and Damian Kelly.
