Yet again it was the same story for Kildress when they played well only to come up marginally short and lose by 2-7 to 0-16 to a strong Killyclogher side at Gortacladdy on Saturday evening. Ultimately it was Killyclogher’s attacking power that made the difference with Conal McCann (who didn’t miss a free all evening), Mark Bradley and Tiernan McCann providing a scoring bite that Kildress couldn’t match.

With Caolan McNamee to the fore around the middle and Johnny Connolly again outstanding, Niall Quinn’s two well-taken goals saw Kildress lead by 2-4 to 0-9 at half-time though they still had to face the stiff breeze. The Tones were unlucky when an early second-half McNamee shot hit the bar but four Killyclogher points in a row then saw the visitors move three ahead. Kildress rallied with two fine Martin Grimes points and pushed hard to level and even go ahead but Killyclogher’s greater accuracy saw them claim the final two points to seal the win.

In a good all round Kildress display, Dean McNally, Peter Daly, Des Tracey, Johnny Connolly, Frank McGurk and Caolan McNamee stood out.
