Kildress remain win-less in their return to Division 3 after a home defeat (2-7 to 3-7) to a strong and pacy Kileeshil side in bitterly cold, blowy conditions at Gortacladdy today. This was another highly-entertaining encounter but was also another in which Kildress just fell short. Two goals conceded in the opening ten minutes were The Tones’ undoing and try as they might – and they did put in a strong second half effort in particular – they could not reign the St Mary’s back in. Philip Lennon’s late first half penalty, adding to the four points he had already scored, left Kildress a slightly kind 1-4 to 2-5 down at half-time. Kildress wanted and needed the good second-half start but again it was Kileeshil who grabbed the initiative, an early goal and a point putting them eight points to the good. That seemed to energise Kildress and a 1-1 blitz from Matty McGuigan plus an Enda McAleer point brought it back to a ‘one score game’. Kildress pressed hard but just couldn’t get the scores and Kileeshil saw out the match for a deserved win. Dean McNally and Michael Crawley were trojan for the Tones who also had good performers in Corey Holland, Philip Lennon, Adam Connolly and Matty McGuigan.
The Reserves meanwhile maintained their 100% record with a 0-15 to 2-4 win, their closest call of the season to date. Des Treacy ruled the roost for The Tones and was well-supported by Colm Loughran.
