Kildress fell to a bitter defeat to Loughmacrory at Gortacladdy today when a goal deep in injury time brought the St Teresa’s a crucial one-point win, 1-8 to 2-4. In a game heavily affected by a strong wind, the teams were tied at 0-3 each at the break and although it was Kildress who had had the wind advantage, it was the St Teresa’s who created the best chances and should surely have had two first half goals. Kildress improved greatly on the turnaround and an early Philip Lennon penalty put them in a good position. A second cooly-taken Lennon goal helped his team to a five-point lead but the Tones’ lack of a cutting edge up front would again cost them dear and they reached injury time with that most fateful of leads, the ‘two-pointer’. One long ball did all the damage and Kildress were left with only the ‘what-ifs’ and a place in the Division II danger zone. Best for the Tones were Philip Lennon (who notched 2-3 of his team’s 2-4 total), the Holland twins, Stephen McGurk, Peter Daly, Enda McAleer and Johnny Connolly whilst Loughmnacrory’s Cathal Donaghy was their standout performer. Sean Hurson refereed the game well.
Kildress Reserves meanwhile maintained their fine run with a 3-13 to 4-8 win over Loughmacrory and hold their position at the top of their League table.
Next up for the Tones is a vital game with Aghyaran at Gortacladdy next Sunday.
