A young and still injury-hit Kildress battled gamely against Loughmacrory in the outstanding venue of Pairc an Locha today but were well beaten by an impressive home team by 2-15 to 1-7. Kildress had their spells in the game, and kicked a costly dozen wides over the hour, but there was no debate but that the better team won out on the day. With wind advantage Kildress started brightly and had the opening points from Eoin Brannigan and Des Treacy before an Adam Connolly score levelled things at 0-3 each. That was as good as it got for The Tones as The Lough went on a roll, scoring 1-2, having a second, brilliantly-finished goal ruled out for over-carrying and seeing a thunderous shot hit the Kildress cross-bar. Corey Holland’s point saw Kildress reach the break behind by 0-4 to 2-6. Early second-half Matty McGuigan and Des Treacy points gave Kildress just a glimmer of hope but one that was soon snuffed out. Three times Loughmacrory scored three-points-in-a-row, some of their point-taking being exceptional. Kildress refused to wilt but a Des Treacy point and a fine Corey Holland goal were their only other scores of the half. In a side that was outgunned by a stronger and well-moving St Teresa’s, Kildress had good performers in Aaron Loughran, Shane Donnelly, the Connolly and Holland brothers, Des Treacy, Enda McAleer and substitute Colm Loughran. An always-entertaining game was very well refereed by Michael McCarron.
