Our Hub construction journey has been a long, complex and very, very rewarding one.
We’re now sitting with what we reckon is as good a GAA Club building as there is anywhere in Ireland. But we still have work to do.
That work involves our external ‘public/community realm’ space, the areas that ‘feed into and out of’ the building and help make it work. At the minute they’re simply not fit-for-purpose.
We’ve tried to get funding support from government (The Departments of Communities and Agriculture/Environment/Rural Affairs) but government has yet again failed to deliver.
That leaves us with two choices:
- Oblige our young people, and everybody else, to trudge through puddles and over rough fill ground at Gortacladdy
- Do something about it ourselves
For us that’s a no-brainer: so, yet again, we’ve taken the second choice.
We’ve spent a lot of time scoping out and planning what needs to be done. Our plan of action involves groundworks, drainage, kerbing, concreting and tarmacking. But it comes with a price tag of £30,000 to complete our first and most-needed phase.
To raise that money, we’re asking people, families, businesses and others if they could gift £1,000. We’ll acknowledge on-site the names of everyone who helps fund this vital work.
Because several people have already stepped up, we’re already halfway towards our £30,000 target. But we/Kildress need more.
