Kildress’ first game back in the Junior grade in a quarter-of-a-century was a thrilling affair today with Fintona that ended 0-15 apiece. Played in ideal conditions in the eye-catching St Lawrence’s Park, and very well refereed by Mark Loughran, this was a hugely enjoyable and well-attended game that quite properly ended all-square. Among its many highlights was some outstanding point-scoring by both teams. It was 0-7 each at half-time, with Eoin Brannigan hitting two stand-out points for the Tones and both goalkeepers pulling off top-class one-on-one saves when goals seemed certain.
In the second half Fintona early on looked likely winners, moving into a three-point lead but Kildress pulled them back and then took a series of one-point leads from there to the finish, only for The Pearses to cancel them out every time. This was a fine all-round and energetic showing by Kildress, who are still hit by injury. Strong performances were put in by Gerard Grimes, Dean McNally, Aaron and Marty Loughran, Pauric Lagan (0-1), Matty McGuigan (0-4), Philip Lennon (0-4) and Colm Loughran (0-3). Next week we travel to Aghaloo.
