Kildress kept their good run going with this 2-11 to 0-12 win over a strong Eskra team today at, for the first time in half-a-century, a ‘pavilion-less’ Gortacladdy. Eskra started the stronger and soon ran up a deserved three-point lead but points from Matty McGuigan and Marty McGurk and a well-worked Caolan McNamee goal saw Kildress take a lead which they never subsequently lost. Half-time had Kildress ahead by 1-6 to 0-6 and whilst Eskra scored three points to Kildress’ two early in the second half, Matty McGuigan’s well-hit penalty gave The Tones a strong five-point lead at the three-quarter stage. Eskra had their chances, often inspired by deep raiding from Niall McGinn, but Kildress always seemed to have enough to see out the game and move into joint third spot in the League table. For Kildress defenders Aaron Loughran, Dean McNally, Eoghan McElduff and Callum Holland (0-1) stood out whilst up front Matty McGuigan (1-4), Marty McGurk (0-2), Stephen Loughran and Conor Quinn (0-1 each) provided a pacy cutting edge whilst Caolan McNamee (1-0) was a very strong presence at full-forward and midfield. Stephen Campbell refereed the contest very well.
The Reserves meanwhile had a thrilling 3-8 to 0-17 draw with Eskra, a result which maintains their unbeaten League record and keeps them at the top of their League table.
