Kildress moved up to third place in the league table (albeit with more games played than their rivals) with this comprehensive 1-21 to 0-7 over Errigal Ciaran III at the eye-catching Dunmoyle venue on Friday night. Kildress dominated this game from the outset and the fact that they had the first five scores of the game, as well as the last 11, is a fair indication of how much in control they were. The Tones also had 11 different scorers in the game and welcomed back several players after long absences.
Matty McGuigan took three of Kildress’ opening five scores and whilst Errigal then rallied a bit, Eoin Brannigan’s goal left Kildress comfortably ahead at the break by 1-7 to 0-4. The opening ten minutes of the second half were reasonably balanced but as Errigal visibly tired, Kildress’ pace really made a difference and The Tones ‘won’ the last 20 minutes by 12 points to one. After their early season struggles Kildress are now definitely on a roll and were the masters in this game all over the field, with a very good all-round team performance. Dean McNally was flawless in defence and other Kildress players to catch the eye were Conor McAleer, Callum Holland (0-3), Pauric Lagan (0-2), Matty McGuigan (0-4) and Conor Quinn whilst those introduced as subs, the three Connollys, Des Treacy and Caolan McNamee, all made significant impacts.
