Kildress kept their run of good form going with this ultimately comfortable 1-18 to 1-4 win against a spirited Killyman at a showery and windy Gortacladdy today. The Tones are still under strength, but players are coming back from injury and team confidence is growing. Killyman opened the scoring and when they added a very well worked tenth minute goal, they deservedly led 1-1 to 0-3. Kildress were struggling a bit but took a grip on things with Eoghan McElduff, Tiernan McNamee, Conor McAleer, Marty Loughran and the Quinns very prominent, to lead by 0-7 to 1-2 at half-time. With the wind behind them Kildress made the perfect start to the second half, an early 1-1 from Marty McGurk (1-2 in total) putting them in a strong position. After that Kildress scored regularly, largely through Philip Lennon (0-5 in total), Des Treacy (0-4) and Pauric Lagan (0-3). Following their shaky start to the season The Tones now find themselves in a play-off spot, but they will know better than anyone that they remain a ‘work-in-progress’ … though one that is definitely progressing!
Meanwhile the Reserves had a bumper win over the visiting St Mary’s, their 100% record keeping them at the top of their League table.
