Kildress’ survival in Division II is still up for grabs as they suffered another narrow defeat at the hands of a strong and powerful Stewartstown team today. Four points down after just four minutes, Kildress could never really get to grips with the game and particularly with the Harps’ outstanding Macauley Quinn who was the dominant figure on the field. Three Philip Lennon points and two from Marty Grimes helped Kildress reach half-time 0-6 to 0-9 behind and with wind advantage to come they were hopeful of a better second-half.
Wind advantage or not, it was the Harps who nailed the first two points on the re-start, leaving Kildress facing an uphill battle. Martin Grimes’ fine goal gave them hope but too often they gave the ball away cheaply or took the wrong option. With ten minutes to go Matty McGuigan’s free brought the sides level but Kildress missed a couple of chances to go ahead and instead it was Stewartstown who seized the day, scoring four points in a row to close out the game. In a match well-refereed by Brian McCallion, Kildress were best served by the returning Dean McNally, the Holland twins, Marty Grimes, Johnny Connolly, Philip Lennon and Eoin Brannigan.
