Kildress played their best football of the year but still came up short, 1-12 to 2-11, to Aghyaran in an entertaining game which referee Martin Sludden let flow well. Having struggled to score in the League so far, Kildress started strongly and had the first five points of the game, all from play. Aghyaran’s goalkeeper Gallen opened their account, also from play and a late goal, well set up by Ronan McNamee, saw the St Davog’s reach half-time just a point behind. The second half flowed back and forward but two Philip Lennon 45s and a Marty Grimes goal gave the Tones a goal lead and a what seemed a controlling position in the match. Aghyaran kept pressing however and Ronan McHugh’s late penalty turned out to be the decisive score, pushing Kildress to an unlucky defeat. Gerard Grimes did well for the Tones in goal as did Stephen McGurk and Marty Loughran in defence whilst up front Philip Lennon (0-5) and Marty Grimes (1-2) threatened most.
In the Reserve game Kildress rallied powerfully for a late Niall McGurk goal to help them to a 3-12 to 2-13 draw and maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Paudie Keenan and Owen Loughran were the Tones’ other goal scorers whilst Matty Mullin chipped in with three points.
