Kildress’ lack of a real cutting edge up front contributed to an ultimately comfortable victory for Moy Tir na nÓg in today’s opening Donnelly Vauxhall Division II League game. Played in ideal conditions and in the Moy’s perfect river-side setting, the game was well-refereed by Cathal Forbes but its ultimate on-the-field controller was Moy’s Colm Cavanagh, who just dominated things with a masterly display from start to finish. Kildress trailed by 0-6 to 0-4 at half-time but an early second half 1-2 without reply from the Tir na nÓgs effectively put the game to bed. Kildress kept trying and contested well, with good showings from Peter Daly, Stephen McGurk, Marty Loughran, Enda McAleer and Frank McGurk (who drove over five points). Kildress however just had to work too hard for their scores, were also careless at times in coughing up possession and in the end could not argue with the Moy’s 1-11 to 0-7 ‘double scores’ victory.
