Kildress may not have a better chance of a first win of the season than the one they let slip today at Gortacladdy against fellow-strugglers Eglish. Playing strong, controlled football Kildress led deservedly by 0-8 to 0-3 at half-time, Johnny Connolly’s two points standing out in a display that saw six other Kildress players score a point apiece.

The second-half was a different story as Kildress simply lost the shape and intensity that had been so successful in the first half. The Tones’ defence seemed to evaporate as Eglish twice had two men over inside the Kildress ‘50’, one leading to a brilliantly-finished goal and the other to a penalty that was equally-brilliantly pushed over by Gerard Grimes. Although Frank McGurk hit the post twice, a single Conor McAleer point was all Kildress could manage in the half whilst the visitors’ impressive 1-5 saw them through to a crucial 1-8 to 0-9 win.

On a disappointing day Kildress were best served by Peter Daly, Aaron Loughran, Martin Grimes, Johnny Connolly and Enda and Conor McAleer.

Meanwhile, Kildress Under 16s retained the Heagney/Lagan Cup yesterday following wins over Galbally Pearses and Pomeroy Plunketts, our constant and true supporters at this important annual event in our Club’s calendar. Thank you too to Grange St Colmcille’s for joining with us for the first time.
