Kildress fell to a crushing 4-17 to 1-5 defeat to a rampant Coalisland Fianna in the quarter-final of the Tyrone Senior Championship at Edendork this afternoon. It was the Tones’ heaviest defeat for many, many years and the writing was on the wall by the time Martin Grimes had Kildress’ first score in the 15th minute as the Fianna already had 1-5 on the board.

The Tones had no answers to a much stronger, pacier and more accurate side who never slacked even when the result was well beyond doubt. Niall Quinn’s second-half penalty saw him top-score with 1-2 for his side but all-in-all it was a day of woe for Kildress as they tumbled to our heaviest-ever Championship defeat. Nonetheless the team had good triers in Johnny Connolly, Conor McAleer, Des Treacy, Martin Grimes and the fearless Damian Kelly. It wasn’t a great day for us … but neither was it fatal. ‘The work goes on, the cause endures’.
