Kildress got no joy yet again in the League when they fell by 1-13 to 2-14 in a thrilling game watched by a large crowd at Galbally tonight. The Tones had a disastrous start, conceding a clever Daniel Kerr goal in the opening seconds and trailing by six points by the time they opened their account after twelve minutes. From there to the interval however they outscored the Pearses by 0-6 to 0-1, the highlights being outstanding scores from Niall Quinn (2) and Damian Kelly along with Des Treacy’s three frees.

An early second half deflected goal put Galbally in charge again but Kildress roared back and a Niall Quinn goal gave them the lead for the first time. From then on it was ‘score about’, with Johnny Connolly driving over two excellent points for the Tones who should have made more from the possession and chances they had. With Kieran McCrory increasingly dominant at mid-field, Galbally proved to have the greater fire-power up front with the pacy Daniel Kerr and Sean Murphy in particularly fine form.

As has been the case in nearly every game this year, Kildress never relented regardless of how things were going and were close, but just not close enough. Peter Daly, Johnny Connolly and Conor Quinn were very sound in defence whilst Des Treacy gave his usual stirring performance at midfield and up front the main threat came from Niall Quinn.

Mickey McCann’s refereeing contributed greatly to a hugely enjoyable hour’s football.
