After a quarter of a century at the higher levels, Kildress tumbled back into Junior football today after this 1-11 to 2-10 play-off defeat to a very impressive Beragh at the impeccable Killyclogher today. Apart from the game’s opening dozen minutes, and the first couple of minutes of the second half, Kildress were second-best here as, yet again in a season of struggle, they struggled to come to terms with the game. The Tones built up an early 0-4 to 0-1 lead but once Beragh goaled to move a point ahead, Kildress would not manage to regain the lead. The Red Knights scored a 1-4 without reply in the first half and rattled up a 1-3 without reply in the second, scoring bursts that really knocked Kildress back and from which they couldn’t recover. The Tones tried hard and rallied well late on, cutting the deficit from six points to two but the relegation which had looked on the cards for some time finally came about.
It’s now all about how we respond to that. ‘Le cheile ar son Chill Dreasa … together for Kildress.’
